Bredex Award 2009

Bredex GmbH has been awarding scholarships to excellent computer science students at the Ostfalia University for applied sciences (formerly known as the Braunschweig/Wolfenbüttel University of applied sciences) for five years.  This year, it was Marcell Bernard-Hilary Salvage whose achievements in the first semester were rewarded. The award of 3000 Euros was personally presented by Achim Lörke, a managing director at Bredex GmbH, during the welcome event for new students. "Supporting outstanding student achievements is an important step to keeping the German market internationally strong. On behalf of Bredex GmbH, I’d like to congratulate Mr. Salvage for his excellent work in his first year and wish him further success in the rest of his studies”.

Marcell Bernard-Hilary Salvage’s achievements in his studies will prepare him well for a successful career.

Salvage’s notable achievements in his studies are all the more remarkable considering his childhood. Marcell Bernard-Hilary Salvage was born in South Africa into a circus family. Until he was sixteen, his roles included caring for the animals and travelling around the country with the circus procession. “There wasn’t much time for school”, he remarks. When the family left the circus and returned to Germany , Salvage completed his A-Levels and set himself high goals: “I wanted to go to University – and I’ve managed that now. In three years, after my Bachelor’s degree, I’m planning on doing a Master’s and then a PhD before I start a career.” The Bredex award means that the tuition fees for the next three years are covered, which is “a relief” says Salvage.
