Faculty of Supply Engineering

Renewable energy

The Department for Supply Engineering has been dealing with the use of regenerative energies for some years now. Amongst others, we have:

- A 5-kW wind turbine,
- A 5.1-kW photovoltaic power plant (solid),
- A 1-kW photovoltaic power plant (with adjustable angle)
- A 6-kWel- CHP (fuel oil),
- A 14-kWel-CHP (natural gas),
- A thermal solar collector,
- A heat pump with air collector,
- A heat pump with soil collector,
- A 1.2-kW fuel cell,
- A 5-kW electrolyzer (February 2009),
- Several wood pellet boilers.

Photovoltaics

Since December 2001, there is a photovoltaic power plant with an electrical output of about 5.1 kW on the roof of our faculty. The plant was installed by the company SOWIWAS.

The topic of networked renewable energy sources is currently being further investigated within the scope of a research project (IGES - Intelligent Building Systems). The photovoltaic system on the roof of the building is an ideal complement to the already existing on-site energy park. The outdoor set wind turbine in addition with the combined heat and power plants (CHP plants) and other plants available in the laboratories will enable the students to learn about a wide range of energy systems as part of their training.

Solar energy – Test rig

In the summer of 2002, the test rig for thermal use of solar energy with Logasol Buderus SKS 3.0-collectors was renewed. The collectors can be adjusted depending on their inclination to the position of the sun. Insights for the use of thermal solar energy can be gained on this test rig in practical operations.

wärmepumpe

Heat pumps - Test rig

The test rig for the operational behavior of heat pumps was renewed in 1997. An air / water heat pump (Stiebel Eltron WPL 15 kW) with the halogen-free refrigerant R 290 (propane) was built. The efficiency ratios for different operating conditions can be determined with the test rig in the laboratory.

Wind Power

A system parallel operated 5-kW wind power plant (Geiger SG 500) was built in 2003. The plant is an important element within the network of renewable energy systems operated at the Department of Power and Building Systems Engineering Technology.
