Joint "Patient Science" project launched to explore rare disease cystic fibrosis

The project "Patient Science", which is funded by the BMBF in the context of its "citizen-science projects" was launched in September. The Faculty of Public Health Services is carrying out the research in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research, the University Hospital in Frankfurt and the Mukoviszidose Verein [Cystic Fibrosis Association]. The aim of the project is on the one hand, to research – through the planning, implementation and evaluation of a patient-science study – major problems in the everyday life of patients with cystic fibrosis and their relatives, in order to explore solutions for them. On the other hand, the potentials and limits of patient science as a special form of citizen-science is being analysed by way of example. Ostfalia's share of the total funding amounts to €14,640.
