Bioplastics

biokunststoffe-001The term bioplastics or biopolymers does not refer to a uniform group of polymers, but to a family of products. The DIN SPEC 1206 " Recommendation for the Terminology and Characterization of Biopolymers and Bioplastics" names the term " biopolymer" as polymers of biological substances obtained from living organisms and their residues. This biomass is considered a renewable resource. A renewable resource is regenerated by natural processes at a rate comparable to its degradation rate. The carbon content of such a polymer is derived from the so-called short-term carbon cycle (expected time frame: 1 year to 10 years). In the long-term carbon cycle, the expected time frame for the conversion of biomass into oil, gas and coal is < 10 6 years.

biokunststoffe.de

The branch portal biokunststoffe.de is operated in cooperation with the Franz Patatat Centre and has been providing information on the advantages and possibilities of the use of bioplastics since 2005, offering the sector a source of competent technical know-how and a professional platform for the presentation of their companies, products and services.
Apart from background information and current news, biokunststoffe.de focuses in particular on competence in the field of technical properties of bioplastics. As technical experts with more than 25 years of experience in the field of bioplastics, we would also like to use this portal to give you an overview of the consulting portfolio we offer and to inform you about our research and development services.

Study Bioplastics

The study Bioplastics - Processing Parameters and Technical Characteristics is aimed at producers, processors and users of biodegradable plastics and producers planning to enter the thermoplastic biopolymer processing sector as well as all interested parties who would like to get an overview of the materials, their properties, prices and applications.
The study can be ordered free of charge as pdf from  Dr. rer. nat. Albert Otten.
