LIM Logistics and Information Management (B.Sc.)

Courses in the areas of logistics, informatics, mathematics, business and ecology qualify graduates for effective information management in the logistics industry. Assuring the practical use of all methods taught is always the guiding principle as is evident in the use of laboratories and the importance of internships during the course of studies. The main focus is to solve logistical problems using suitable technologies that are both, economically and ecologically sound.

Logistics and Information Management starts with the basics of Mathematics and IT, Business Organization and External Accounting, Economics and Innovation Management and Applied Computer Science. Students also learn more about Methodological Techniques and Project Management in order to prepare them for the professional world.

During the course of study, students have to select special modules (e.g. Cooperation Management, Specialist Topics regarding the Transport Industry, Airline Management and Financial Management). Furthermore, they have the opportunity to choose among elective courses, all of which are focussed on Innovation Management.

At the end of their course of study, students do an internship and write a qualified Bachelor Thesis.

Logistics and Information Management (co-op program) (LIP)

LIP Logistics (part-time in industry with integrated vocational training) (B.A.)

This cooperative Logistics Study Programme is a dual business course offered by the Ostfalia in cooperation with industrial companies, logistic providers and the vocational school in Wolfsburg. This nine semester programme (two semesters more than other programmes in the field of transport) includes a one-year intensive practical phase which students complete after the third theory semester in their programme of studies. At the end of this phase, students will take the final examination in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce to become an expert for freight forwarding and logistics services clerk. Due to the fact that students arrange a qualification contact with one of the Ostfalia‘s partner companies before their actual enrolment, students can gain both, a university degree and a vocational training qualification.

Basic classes of this course of study are, for instance, Mathematics and IT, Organizational Management and External Accounting, Economics, Transport Economics and Transport Technology. During the fourth and fifth semester, students gain practical experience at companies. After that, they deepen their knowledge in the following areas: External and Internal Logistics, Passenger Transport Systems, Conflict Management, Stock Control and Optimization. Furthermore, they learn more about Soft Skills.

Finally, they have to do an internship and have to write a qualified Bachelor Thesis.

Industrial Engineering focussing on Mobility and Traffic (WMV)

WMV Industrial Engineering focussing on Traffic (B.Sc.)

The Industrial Engineering course of studies focuses on traffic and prepares students for a management position in the fields of road, rail and air transport. This includes the planning and operation of transport systems as well as the organization of traffic scheduling. Extensive technical, economic and specialized transportation knowledge is conveyed – a combination of subjects which is unique in Germany. Depending on individual interests, the course also offers opportunities for specialization through special modules and elective subjects.

Regarding semesters one to three, Industrial Engineering for Transport Management includes the following foundational classes: Introduction to IT-Systems, Introduction to Economics (Mathematics, Statistics), Introduction to Traffic Industry, Soft Skills and Conflict Management. Through semester four to six, this course of study offers indepth study courses like Air Traffic Technology, Overland Transport Technology, External and Internal Logistics and Transport Industry Studies and Law.

In the fifth and sixth semester, students choose special modules and several elective courses from an economical and a technical catalogue individually. The last semester provides an internship and the writing of the Bachelor Thesis.

SPM Sports Management (B.A.)

This course of studies educates specialists and managers for organizations entrusted with sport management tasks in the widest sense of the word. The diversified studies are orientated towards the requirements of modern management training which qualifies graduates to strategically develop and implement integrated concepts.

The basic course of study includes introductions to Economics (e.g. Mathematics, Statistics, Bookkeeping / Accounting and Law), introductions to Organizational Management, Business English, scientific methods and interpersonal skills.

After the basic course, students can choose among different special modules (e.g. one course out of the modules Innovations in Sports, Sports and Health, Facility Management, Business Start Ups and one course out of the modules Commercial Sports Providers / Fitness, Clubs / Associations and Professional Sports Broadcasting).

Finally, students complete a practical semester by doing an internship for three month and they have to write a qualified Bachelor Thesis.

Tourism | Region

Tourism Management (TM)

TM Tourism Management (B.A.)

This management training course focuses on the business and economic aspects of the tourism and leisure industry. It provides an academic-theoretical basis and applications for operational practice are shown and trained.

From the start, students will learn about tourism business economics, such as Tourism Economics, Business Administration and Organizational Management. Additionally, there are courses in Mathematics, Statistics and Market Research. Also, the main aspects of law are covered (e.g. German Civil Code / Commercial Code). Within the entire course, Business English is part of the teaching plan.

After the third semester, students may specialize their studies in three directions of tourism management. Modules to choose from are: leisure travel, business travel or destination management. During the sixth semester, students have to do an internship in a self-chosen company.

Finally, students have to write a qualified Bachelor Thesis.

City and Regional Management (SRM)

SRM City and Regional Management (B.A.)

This course of studies, exclusively offered in Germany up until now, qualifies students for their work in the field of urban and regional development. It conveys modern methods for strategically developing and actively managing cities and regions with integrated concepts.

Students learn about the economic and social-cultural framework of city and regional development and gain specialist and social expertise in order to solve interdisciplinary planning questions with a commercial mindset, marketing knowledge and awareness of the procedures of process management.

In the first two semesters, city and regional management deals with the basics, namely with the introduction to economics (e.g. Mathematics, Statistics, Bookkeeping / Accounting and Law), to Organizational Management, Business English as well as to different methods and interpersonal skills.

During the following semesters, students can choose among different elective classes like Tourism, Sports and Community, Transport and Environment, Strategic Communication in Nonprofit-Organizations. Furthermore, students specialise in one study course out of three (Culture Management, City Management or Event Management).

Finally, they complete an internship and write a qualified Bachelor Thesis.

Media

Media Management (MM)

MM Media Management (B.A.)

The focus of this programme of studies is on the fields of media production and marketing and on corporate communications. Graduates should possess knowledge of business as well as communication science and creative expertise to be able to successfully implement media projects from the initial idea through to controlling.

The Media Management students learn in this programme of study the basics in Economics (e.g. Mathematics, Statistics, Accounting / Bookkeeping and Media Policy) and Organizational Management as well as Business English. Furthermore, they have the opportunity to get an insight in different communication and production processes (e.g. Print and Web, Media Markets, Media Marketing). In the last semester of this study course the students do an internship and write their qualified Bachelor Thesis. The aim of the study course is that the students are able to promote a product and know how to design it. Surely, mediamanagers should have insight into media production as well as communication skills. Thus Ostfalia is prepared to help the students on their journey.

Media Design (MDBA)

MDBA Media Design (B.A.)

The creative and artistic conception and developement of media products are the focus of this course of studies. Students gain founded specialist knowledge in the fields of communication design, games, animation, film and interactive design.
 
During the course of studies, students create a lot of practical work in groups as well as by themselves. The creative project based work is supported by theoretical courses and reflections. Ostfalia has advanced media laboratories, an exceptional motion picture studio and cameras, motion capture equipment and XR headsets, to facilitate the realization of one‘s own creative ideas.

Students complete an internship in the sixth semester which will help them find the right position in the professional world after their course of studies.

Finally, students work on their Bachelor Thesis Project which includes a theoretical written part and a creative practical part.

Media Communications (MK)

MK Media Communications (B.A.)

The focus of this programme of study is on the fields of content production, journalism and public relations. Graduates should possess knowledge of journalistic writing skills as well as knowledge of strategic communication and communication science. They are able to use their conceptual skills in print, audio, TV and online.

Our Media Communications students learn the theoretical and practical basics of journalism (e. g. editorial management, journalistic writing, methodical/investigative research) and of public relations (e. g. strategic communication, issue management and internal communication) as well as organizational management. Furthermore, they have the opportunity to gain insight into different communication fields (e. g. political communication, cultural communication, business communication) and media departments (e. g. print, online, TV, radio and cross-media). In the last semester of this study course the students do an internship and write their bachelor’s thesis.

The aim of the study course is that the students are able to produce content in different media departments and communication fields. Graduating in Media Communications, the students should have insight into journalism as well as public relations.

The different business areas of sport, councils, regions and tourism have developed significantly over the past years. Orientation towards business methods is in full swing in the sport industry, councils and regions are increasingly adopting commercial working methods and concepts, while tourism is already well-developed as an area of business. Growing competition between providers, the availability of public funds for the individual areas of business, EU authority influences and increasing orientation towards services are all developments that make concept management expertise essential in these fields. This Master course has been specifically designed to train responsible managers for these services.

This Master course of study shows students in different classes how they can succeed as managers in a leading position. Furthermore this course of study explores areas like International Management and Service Quality. It is very important that the students learn both, the practical and the theoretical side of issues; for this reason they have to do projects in small groups and case studies in addition to their theoretically orientated lectures.

Leadership in Service Enterprises is taught in close cooperation with our bachelor course of studies Sports Management, Tourism Management and City and Regional Management.

Graduates of our Communication Management program know how to plan and execute strategic and journalistic communication with due regard to business factors. They have the ability to lead teams. On the basis of sound knowledge of communication theories and the methods of empirical social research, they can make well-founded management decisions. Transport and Logistics (MVL)

MVL Transport and Logistics (M.A.)

This course of studies has been developed on the basis of our five bachelor courses of studies in the field of transport / logistics, whereby the largest part of the course is orientated towards conveying business and economic expertise in the fields of transport / traffic / logistics. This Masters degree provides higher qualifications than Bachelor courses of studies due to the expansion and specialization of expertise.

Students deepen the knowledge they gained during their bachelor course of studies by doing case studies and projects. This course of study takes three semesters in which students learn more about Mobility Management, Logistic Technology, Logistic Controlling and International Management.

Finally students have to do an internship and write a qualified Master Thesis.
