Daimler and Benz Foundation

With the ‘Ladenburg Roundtable’ (external link, opens in a new window), the Daimler and Benz Foundation offers a platform for the interdisciplinary discussion of relevant research topics. On its premises, scientists and practitioners can discuss freely chosen topics without predetermined expectations of results. The foundation covers the organisation, travel and accommodation costs.

The discourses are open to all disciplines and can lead to publications or larger research projects.

Academics in management positions at German universities or research institutions are eligible to apply and can submit topic proposals. If approved, they can select up to 20 participants and act as leaders themselves.

Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU)

The German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) (external link, opens in a new window) funds solution-orientated projects in the fields of environmental technology, research, communication and the protection of natural and cultural assets. With ten funding themes, open-topic funding and temporary initiatives, the support is aimed particularly at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

In addition to national projects, the DBU also supports international projects to a limited extent, primarily in Central and (Southern) Eastern Europe, and in individual cases beyond. Advice is provided by independent, interdisciplinary teams that accompany applicants from the project outline to realisation and support them in communicating outstanding project results.

Fritz Thyssen Foundation

In the ‘State, Economy and Society’ funding area, the Fritz Thyssen Foundation (external link, opens in a new window) aims in particular to support research projects that investigate the prerequisites and consequences of the processes of change that characterise today's societies. It concentrates on projects that can be categorised as economics, law, political science and sociology. It does not exclude research in other fields.

Industrial Collective Research

Industrial Collective Research (IGF) (external link, opens in a new window)builds a bridge between basic research and commercial application. Under the umbrella of the AiF research associations, new technologies are developed for entire sectors and increasingly across sectors in order to maintain and strengthen the competitiveness of SMEs. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) supports the IGF with public funds.

Georg Eckert Research Award 2024

Every two years, the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media| Georg Eckert Institute (GEI) (external link, opens in a new window)awards the Georg Eckert Research Award (external link, opens in a new window)for academic work in the field of international educational media research. The prize is awarded to works in German or English that deal with cultural, social, political and/or pedagogical aspects of educational media in schools from a historical or current perspective. With this award, the GEI aims to promote outstanding work in the field of humanities and cultural studies.

The GEI also awards a prize for young academics to promote young academics.

Karl-Vossloh-Stiftung

The Karl Vossloh Foundation (external link, opens in a new window) provides research grants of up to 102,000 euros p.a. for research projects that are limited to a period of up to three years and include a doctoral position.

Possible subject areas are:

  •  Mobility research (passenger (short-distance) and freight transport)
  • Vehicle technology (design, drive and storage technology)
  • Transport routes (road planning, carriageway construction and design)

Stiftung Mercator

Stiftung Mercator (external link, opens in a new window) is inspired in its actions by the values of its mission statement and is committed to open-mindedness, solidarity and equal opportunities. The aim is to enable people and organisations to work together towards a pluralistic society, whereby shared knowledge is seen as the basis for social change.

The foundation focuses its work on four interconnected topics: Digitalised society, climate protection, Europe in the world and participation and cohesion. Its commitment encompasses Germany, Europe and global projects, whereby it is committed to its special ties with the Ruhr region, the foundation's headquarters and home of the founding family.

Zukunftsfonds Asse

The Asse Future Fund Foundation aims to promote regional development in the district of Wolfenbuettel and in particular in the area around the mine. The focus is on projects that support the structural development of this region.
