Family and career
Is your career important to you, but you don't want to permanently subordinate it to your family and private life?
At Ostfalia, we endeavour to find flexible solutions that suit your individual situation.
A good living space for families

As a university that has been certified with the "University and Family" audit, the compatibility of career, studies and family is an incentive and an important concern for us. For us, family includes not only the classic nuclear family, single mothers or fathers, but also all social networks in which long-term responsibility is assumed for others. This includes non-marital and same-sex partnerships as well as patchwork and foster families.
Prof Dr Ing Rolf Roskam: "The university's family friendliness is exemplary."
"Although there is always room for improvement, there are already very good childcare facilities in the crèche and kindergarten Zwergenbutze run by the Studentenwerk OstNiedersachsen, which makes it much easier for students and staff to combine family life with education or work. There are also numerous other offers for employees, such as additional days off when small children are ill, the option of adjusting working hours and, in special cases, unpaid leave. My family has benefited greatly from the opportunities that Ostfalia offers as a family-friendly university."

Our offer as a family-friendly university
We recognise the dual burden of studying or working and family life. By signing the "Family at the university" charter, we have committed ourselves to
- to promote family-conscious and appreciative management behaviour
- to establish more family-friendly ways of organising studies
- to expand our company health management programme
- to co-operate with other institutions and networks in the area of family at regional level
At all four Ostfalia campuses, there are crèche, daycare centre and kindergarten places available close to the university. At the campus in Wolfenbüttel, the "Grashüpfer", an Ostfalia student project, offers flexible, free childcare for up to 15 hours per week.
Our family service will inform you about all current childcare options.
The Equal Opportunities Office provides advice and information on family, care and diversity programmes.
