Centre for Hydrosystems and Health
The Centre for Hydrosystems and Health (CHH) is an interdisciplinary research centre at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences (Faculties of Civil Engineering, Water and Soil Sciences, Health Sciences, Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering). It is also open to visiting researchers from other universities. The CHH brings together the disciplines of water management, computer science and health care to focus on the core theme of ‘water’. In addition, the areas of ‘climate’ and ‘environment’ are also taken into account.
The purpose of the Center for Hydrosystems and Health (CHH) is to promote research and development in the field of regional, national and international climate impact and environmental research with regard to water-relevant topics and their significance for health. One focus is the mutual transfer of knowledge with actors from practice in order to develop socially relevant solutions. By bundling competences from the faculties of Building-Water-Soil (B), Informatics (I) and Public Health (G), the CHH offers a forum for cooperation, for the interdisciplinary exchange of information and experience, for the formation of research alliances and for the joint preparation and implementation of even larger and cross-faculty projects in research and development. In addition, the CHH can act as a contact for relevant projects of the economy, authorities, politics and civil society.
Areas of research
Although the core theme is ‘water’, the complex field of ecosystem research cannot be considered in isolation. To obtain a holistic picture, the CHH also takes climate and the environment into account, as these are directly linked to the core themes of health and the hydrosystem. In line with the specialist expertise of its founding members, the CHH’s current research profile is defined as follows:
- Further development of (waste)water monitoring and wastewater-based epidemiology
- Analysis of hydrological extremes such as floods and droughts, and the development of adaptation strategies
- Securing water supplies through sustainable water management strategies
- Creation of environmental databases using innovative technologies
- Use of conventional models, AI and remote sensing for optimised water protection
