Commissions

The Senate can set up committees, commissions and working groups to advise it in accordance with Section 8 of Ostfalia's Basic Regulations (PDF, 301.37 KB) (opens in a new window), (not accessible). Senate committees are bodies made up exclusively of members of the Senate. Senate commissions may also include persons who are not members of the Senate.

The Senate establishes the following standing commissions in accordance with Section 8 (5) of the Basic Regulations:

  • Research Commission,
  • Budget and Planning Commission,
  • Commission for Research Ethics,
  • Commission for Equal Opportunities,
  • Study Quality Commission according to §14 b (2) NHG,
  • Election Commission,
  • Central Study Commission.

All member groups of the university should be represented in the standing commissions.

Tasks of the standing commissions

Research Commission

The Research Commission supports and advises the Presidential Board on strategic decisions to promote research and transfer. In addition, recommendations are made to the Presidential Board for the granting of research and practical semesters as well as teaching relief for research purposes.

Commission for Equal Opportunities

The Commission for Equal Opportunities  proposes candidates to the Senate for election as full-time Equal Opportunities Officers and their part-time deputies. It also advises the Equal Opportunities Officer and the university's committees and bodies on equal opportunities issues.

Budget and Planning Commission

The Budget and Planning Commission advises the Presidential Board on the management and distribution of resources and receives reports from the Presidential Board on the current budget and the implementation status of planned measures.

Commission for Research Ethics

At the request of the respective scientists, the Committee for Research Ethics examines research projects involving human beings to ensure that they are ethically unobjectionable.

Study Quality Commission

The Study Quality Commission decides in agreement with the Presidential Board on the planned allocation of study quality funds to the faculties and to centrally managed study quality funds. It also decides, in agreement with the Presidential Board, on the use of centrally managed study quality funds.

Election Commission

The Election Commission prepares the committee elections and monitors their implementation. It makes recommendations to the Senate on the formulation of the election regulations.

Central Study Commission

The Senate's Study Commission advises the Senate and the Presidential Board on the establishment, modification and closure of degree programmes as well as on other overarching topics relating to teaching, studies and continuing education.

It also serves as a forum for the deans of studies in particular to discuss topics such as improving the quality of teaching and learning.
