Coming to Ostfalia Campus Salzgitter from Abroad

Welcome to the Salzgitter campus!
What can you expect from us?
Close-knit community & personal support
With us, you are not just one of many. We look forward to meeting you, see you as an asset and take time for you. We are interested in who you are, what moves you and what you want to achieve. We accompany, encourage and support you - openly and personally.
Our buddies and tutors will help you find your way around the campus, the region and your courses. In small study and work groups and at the international get-together, you will quickly make new friends. The team “FYI - for your integration” will support you from your application to graduation and your entry into the labour market.
Imagine arriving and being in good hands.
Practical experience & industry contacts
With us, you can expect more than just theory: through integrated internships, projects with companies or a dual study programme, where you also work in a company, you will gain practical experience during your studies. Our teaching staff all have practical work experience.
You can prepare for a career start in Germany with special training, language courses and counselling. Our job talks, matching days, company visits, career fairs and our mentoring programme open doors and make contacts - so you are well prepared for your start in professional life.
Imagine you are already in the professional world during your studies.
Zero tuition fees & low cost of living
At Ostfalia you pay no tuition fees - only a semester fee of around 400 euros per semester. A ticket for public transport is included and is valid throughout Germany for local trains, trams and buses.
Salzgitter has cheap rents - you can easily find affordable accommodation. Jobs for students are also easy to find here. Cities like Braunschweig and Hanover are nearby.
Imagine studying tuition-free on a modern campus and living at low cost.
German & English
Our degree programmes are in German, but individual courses can be offered in English or "English-friendly" by arrangement. "English-friendly" means, among other things, that you can speak English in the course, the teachers will support you in English and you can take the exam in English.
We offer free German language courses from beginner to expert level and with different specialisations.
If you are aiming for a degree with us, you must provide proof of your German language skills. If you are aiming for a Master's degree with us and do not yet have sufficient German language skills, you may still be able to start your studies. Please contact Nadine (opens your email program).
As an exchange student or visiting student, you do not need to provide proof of German language skills. You can also choose courses from all degree programmes in the Faculty of Transport-Sports-Tourism-Media and, by arrangement, perhaps also from degree programmes in other faculties.
Imagine improving your German language skills and being able to use English.
I feel welcome as an international student at the Ostfalia Campus Salzgitter. The faculty combines excellent teaching, practical experience and personal support - ideal for me!

Going Abroad from Ostfalia Campus Salzgitter
What are your options?
There are many ways to study abroad, and you can spend entire semesters or just a few days abroad.
Examples of shorter stays include study trips, language courses and summer schools. Summer schools are compact international study programmes that usually take place during the semester break.
If you would like to spend a whole semester or several semesters abroad, you can spend a study semester at a host university abroad, complete your internship semester (compulsory internship) at a company abroad or write your thesis abroad.
There are funding opportunities for all of this at Ostfalia, and we will help you with the planning and organisation.
Simply take part in the information event that takes place every semester and come to us for advice.
With us, all students have the chance to go abroad - including you!

Your semester abroad ̶ your window to the world
We have integrated something very special into your degree programme so that you can study abroad in a relaxed manner: so-called mobility windows. They allow you to spend a semester abroad:
- Without wasting time
- Without grade pressure
- With plenty of freedom in your choice of courses so that you can pursue your interests and career plans
- With a reduced course load so that you have enough time to experience the country and its people
You can study at one of our many partner universities abroad, but also at any other university abroad of your choice. Find out more in our video:

If you are studying at the Ostfalia Campus Salzgitter and would like to spend a semester abroad, please contact our International Student Office for advice.
You can also join the Stud.IP course "Studiensemester im Ausland". There you will receive experience reports and detailed information on host universities as well as all information and documents on the first steps, the mobility window and applying for a place at a partner university. International experience at home
The Ostfalia Campus Salzgitter offers you the opportunity to gain international experience on site.
Study Buddy Programme
The Study Buddy Programme brings together students who have grown up in Germany and students from abroad. The students from Germany support the students from abroad when they arrive in the region and on campus. They help them to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings and culture and get to know other students. They answer questions and lead small study groups in which, for example, they discuss what you need to do for a presentation, how to write to a professor or how to solve a specific exam task.
You can also take part in this programme if you grew up in Germany, but the university is still new territory for you and you would like to get to know students from abroad.
If you grew up in Germany and are already studying in a higher semester at the Ostfalia Campus Salzgitter, you can lead a small group as a Study Buddy and get paid for it.
Are you interested? Then get in touch with Nadine (opens your email program).
Language courses & language tandems
Our language centre offers you the opportunity to learn languages free of charge. Whether you want to improve your school Spanish to a business level, read your favourite manga in Japanese or use your oral Arabic skills in writing: there's something for everyone here.
Not only can you take courses, but you can also improve your language skills with native speakers in the language tandem programme over an evening of games, a coffee or while cooking together - just as you like.
International get-together
There is a weekly get-together in the cafeteria during the lunch break. It is for all those who want to exchange ideas internationally and get to know internationally interested students. If you are interested, we will be happy to invite specific participants for you. For example, you can get to know a counsellor from International Career Services, a specific professor or the AIESEC board in a relaxed atmosphere.
Contact Nadine (opens your email program) if you would like to take part.
Intercultural training & regional studies
The FYI team and the Language Centre offer free intercultural training and regional seminars for various target groups and with different focuses. For example, you can prepare yourself for working in multicultural teams or entering a specific labour market.
International courses
In our international courses, you have many opportunities to gain new perspectives and expand your intercultural skills - on campus. For example, you will deal with global issues, listen to international guest lectures, attend lectures by researchers from abroad or realise projects with students from different countries. Along the way, you will improve your foreign language skills and make valuable contacts with people from all over the world.
Certificates
International key qualifications can be decisive for job applications. This is why you will receive a certificate if you have completed further international training during your degree programme.
The certificate for intercultural competence is open to all students.
For students from abroad, there is also the Kickstart Career certificate, which certifies a special qualification for starting a career in Germany.
