About the faculty

Social work: empowering people, shaping the future!

The Faculty of Social Work stands for a well-founded, practice-orientated and critically reflective education. We prepare students to effectively support people in challenging life situations, to stand up for social justice and to professionally organise the diverse tasks in social occupational fields. Since the introduction of the first degree programme in 2006, we have been constantly developing and adapting our teaching to current social needs.

At the heart of our programme is the close integration of science and practice. Through study-integrated internships, project workshops and an intensive exchange with over 100 practice partners from the region, we ensure that our teaching has its finger on the pulse of the times. Formats such as the "Market of Opportunities" bring students together with potential employers at an early stage. We emphasise personal support and encourage the development of a professional attitude, which is essential for working with and for people.

Whether you are planning a Bachelor's or Master's degree programme, looking for further training or interested in our research - we look forward to introducing you to what social work means to us!

Our research: knowledge for the practice of tomorrow

How do we shape an inclusive society? How do we strengthen democratic participation and how do we use digitalisation for social interaction? At our faculty, research is the driving force behind social innovation. We analyse current social challenges in order to develop scientifically sound and practically relevant solutions. Our projects range from promoting democracy and analysing new forms of housing to digital participation in culture and education.

In our interdisciplinary Centre for Social Innovation (ZEGI) and in close cooperation with practice partners, we pool our expertise to promote social justice and improve people's quality of life. From local neighbourhood studies to international collaborations - our research is as diverse as social work itself.
