Would you like to combine your knowledge of social work with modern management methods?

The degree programme enables graduates to hold management positions in all areas of the social sector, with public bodies, in independent welfare organisations and in private sector organisations as well as - with corresponding independent specialisations - in related areas of the health, education, cultural and public sectors. In addition to academic and methodological qualifications, the degree programme also serves in particular to develop personal reflection skills. Throughout the programme, you will be regularly supported by a coach in the group.

A degree in social management opens up a wide range of career paths in positions of responsibility. Your prospects could be

  • Management positions at public authorities, charities or independent organisations (e.g. as head of department or division)

  • Promotion to higher pay scale groups (e.g. from E11 to E13)

Important study contents

The degree programme prepares you for the complex demands placed on modern managers in the social sector. You will deal intensively with management concepts and ethics and build a solid foundation in the areas of law and business administration. This includes essential topics such as company and labour law, financial accounting, cost management and the specific forms of financing in the social economy.

Another focus is on the organisation, planning and management of social institutions. You will learn all about employee management and personnel management and deal with the challenges and opportunities of digitalisation and artificial intelligence in social work. Your profile will be rounded off with modules on innovation management, sustainability and social research so that you can not only manage social organisations, but also develop them in a visionary way.

Admission requirement

  • bachelor's degree (German university, university of Bologna signatory states, other foreign university with equivalent degree)
  • relevant professional experience in the social sector, at least 1 year in full-time employment or in part-time employment with at least half of the regular working hours. Completion of the recognition year after obtaining the Bachelor's degree in "Social Work" is recognised as practical professional experience.

  • 1.000 € enrolment fee
  • 1.700 € semester fee per semester (1st to 4th semester)
  • 900 € examination fee
