School contacts

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering organises regular school visits. In addition to the large general events, such as "Studying under the magnifying glass", the faculty also aims to offer a programme tailored to your pupils where possible.

Procedure for school contacts

We want to clarify the questions that interest you and your students the most. We therefore offer the option of simply attending a regular lecture or experiencing a "special lecture" in which we can respond much more directly to the students.

In an initial study counselling session, we explain the course of study, take a look at laboratories or allow you to visit us several times and experience a seminar or project together with us.

We use "standardworkshops" or work with you to develop a customised solution that dovetails with your lessons. It is also possible that the students accompany us for a whole semester or even two with regular visits. As part of the workshops, we are happy to work together with students of mechanical engineering, industrialengineering or the central student advisory service in order to achieve early discussions and an exchange "at eye level" between pupils and students.

Offers of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

  • Participation in a regular lecture
    e.g. mathematics, design fundamentals, machine elements, statics, etc.
  • "Special lecture" outside the teaching programme
    • (mixture of regular lecture and explanations of the study programme)
  • Visit to an individual laboratory
    • Tour of the machine hall
    • Tour of engine test benches
    • Presentation of research projects, student projects and laboratories
  • Standardworkshopon 3D CAD and 3D printing
    • Getting a taste of professional CAD software (PTC Creo)
    • Creating initial components (e.g. a heart, a bracelet, a connecting rod, a simple "motor mount" or a YoYo)
    • Produce the customised parts using 3D printing

Of course, the above topics can also be combined individually!

Realised individual cooperations

  • "Create your Style"
    - Jewellery design - a creative workshop for anyone who likes jewellery
    - Development of individual jewellery, mobile phone cases, etc. in professional CAD
    - Production of your own "product" with the 3D printer
    [Workshop on Fridays/Saturdays in cooperation with the State Education Authority and the NiedersachsenMetall Foundation]
  • "SIA - Student Engineering Academy"
    - 2 semesters of "study"
    - The Faculties of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering co-operate with the NiedersachsenMetall Foundation and the companies Bosch and MAN.
    - Topic of the 2nd semester: "How do trucks get on the road?" [two-semester event organised by the NiedersachsenMetall Foundation]
  • "ITech³"
    Students design the engine mount for a car engine, construct it in professional CAD and then load it under a tension-compression machine. "Let the competition begin!
    Who will develop the lightest and most stable construction? Award ceremony included!

  • "Pupils build quadrocopters"
    Pupils develop, design and build individual quadrocopters together in teams.
    It's all about materials, electronics, construction, testing and, of course, the flight experience!
