Library staff at the Wolfenbüttel campus

"A variety of tasks and good teamwork make the workplace attractive.

I initially completed a voluntary social year in the field of culture and education near my home town in Saxony-Anhalt. As I was very enthusiastic about working in the library, I decided to do a three-year apprenticeship as a specialist in media and information services, choosing Wolfsburg for personal reasons. I then moved to the Wolfenbüttel campus to look after the circulation desk.

Not only students and employees of the university come here, but also pupils who need literature for their homework or private individuals with an academic interest. In order to answer the various enquiries, emails and phone calls and at the same time make books available, a high degree of flexibility and organisational talent is needed in some situations, as well as a balanced resting pulse. Especially in the evenings, when students still have a research request, have to pay overdue fines and private individuals want to quickly apply for a library card.

However, the variety of my tasks also motivates me. Good teamwork is important. Although different characters come together in our library team, working together is always based on mutual respect and is a lot of fun. However, this sense of togetherness is not noticeable everywhere; I would like to see the individual Ostfalia locations and facilities pull together more and see themselves more as a joint institution.

When things get really stressful, the workplace as such also contributes to motivation: The library rooms are very cosy and attractively designed. Especially from the sofa area, you have a beautiful view over the green grounds."
