Studying with disabilities
Students with health impairments often have special needs.
- Does this also apply to you?
Then you should know that you have a right to support and to an equal-opportunity and non-discriminatory degree programme.
We will be happy to advise you on all impairment-related concerns regarding the choice of degree programme, the application process, the course of study and the general conditions of study.
University for all? Really for everyone? - Prospective students and students with disabilities, health impairments (both visible and invisible) and chronic illnesses are often faced with architectural, structural, didactic and communicative barriers. This usually means that students with health impairments (have to) study longer than others, are forced to interrupt their studies more frequently and change degree programmes or universities more often.
- We would like to counteract this.
Equal opportunities and a non-discriminatory study and work environment at the university concerns us all! We not only advise you as a student with health restrictions, but also fellow students who would like support and lecturers who have questions on the subject.
The range of topics covered by the counselling service includes choosing a course of study, applying, the course of study, the transition to a career as well as the challenges you face alongside your studies, e.g. finding suitable accommodation, financing issues and much more.
Counselling services
The instrument of compensation for disadvantages enables you to complete coursework and examinations in a form, time or manner that suits you. This depends on the nature or effects of your disability and your degree programme. Compensation for disadvantages is granted on an individual and situational basis and is therefore a matter for negotiation between you and the faculty. Let us advise you on this.
The universities have the task of creating a study and work environment that is as barrier-free as possible. The situation at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences is not always favourable in this respect. Please contact us so that we can get an overview together and look for an appropriate solution. An on-site appointment before you start your studies is also possible at any time.
Many questions about this - as well as about application/admission, housing, mobility, financing, etc. - can be clarified in a personal meeting, please contact me/us.
