Specialisation options
Around half of your degree programme consists of specialisation modules that allow you to prepare specifically for different fields of work. You have the choice between two thematic specialisations - a combination of specialisations is not possible.
Energy and buildings (EG)
In this specialisation, you will deal with topics such as
- Facility management
- Facility management tools
- Integrated planning and building physics
- Certification of buildings
- Integrated energy concepts
- Simulation of building and energy systems
Networks and environment (NU)
Here you will focus on:
- Public supply (gas, water, electricity)
- Material cycles, bioeconomy
- Wastewater management and pollution control
- Simulation of ecosystems
Choose the specialisation that best suits your interests and career goals and specialise in a promising field!

Study programme
The degree programme can also be completed while working: courses are always held on Fridays and Saturdays. You can either complete the Master's degree programme in three semesters as a part-time full-time course or complete it flexibly in six or more semesters using the part-time model.
Admission requirement
A completed engineering degree (Bachelor's or Diplom) with 210 ECTS in a relevant subject area.
In the case of a degree obtained abroad, sufficient command of the German language must be demonstrated.
Is it possible to apply before completing my Bachelor's degree?
You can apply if you have at least 90% of the Bachelor's ECTS. Submit your current transcript of records; you can submit your Bachelor's certificate by the end of the first Master's semester at the latest.
Do you have a Bachelor's degree with 180 ECTS?
The 3-semester Master's programme requires a suitable Bachelor's degree with 210 ECTS. If you are missing up to 30 ECTS, you can make up for this in a bridging semester at our faculty.
You can find the current bridging programme here: Bridging semester (PDF, 123.19 KB) (opens in a new window), (not accessible)
Frequently asked questions about the bridging semester
- By when do I have to make up the 30 ECTS? According to the admission regulations, the missing ECTS should be acquired within a bridging semester. If this is not possible in the foreseeable future, please contact the head of degree programme in good time.
- Which modules are available? You may only take modules that were not part of your Bachelor's degree programme. Enrolment is limited to one semester on the Bachelor's degree programme in Industrial Engineering and Management Energy/Environment. If you have already completed individual proposed modules during your Bachelor's degree programme, these can be replaced by alternative modules. In this case, the programme director will be happy to advise you individually and show you suitable alternatives.
- Can modules be acquired externally? Yes, credits can also be earned at other Ostfalia faculties or external colleges/universities and recognised if necessary. A module extract must be submitted for credit transfer.
