Studying abroad at partner universities
Ostfalia maintains partnerships with numerous universities in Europe and worldwide. Tuition fees are waived for you at around 98% of these partner universities.
In Europe in particular, you will also benefit from the Erasmus+ programme: many of our European partner universities take part in it. With Erasmus+, you not only receive organisational support, but also a financial grant for your stay. You can find everything you need to know about the Erasmus+ programme here.
Find the right partner university for your study abroad programme!

You can use our portal (external link, opens in a new window)to find suitable partner universities. Practical filters make your search even easier.
Please keep the following in mind:
- Most partnerships offer exchange opportunities for specific degree programmes or faculties. However, some partner universities accept students from all subject areas. Use the “Study Programme” filter to find the right host university for you.
- The majority of our cooperation agreements are at the Bachelor’s level, while there are fewer exchange options for Master’s students.
- It’s best to consider a stay abroad early in your studies—this allows you plenty of time to prepare. However, if you are already in a later semester, we are still happy to support you.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs):
When is the right time to go abroad?
You can go abroad from the third semester of your Bachelor's degree programme. The exact periods can vary depending on the faculty and degree programme. It is therefore best to find out about the respective options directly from your faculty.
Some faculties also offer so-called mobility windows. These are fixed periods within your degree programme during which a stay abroad can be planned particularly well. During these mobility windows, you are optimally prepared to study abroad without prolonging your studies at Ostfalia.
The best thing to do is to contact your faculty's study abroad officer directly to find out when a stay abroad is most suitable for you and whether there is a mobility window.
How much preparation time do I need?
It is best to start planning your semester or internship abroad early. The application phases for exchange places or scholarships usually start 9 to 12 months before your desired stay abroad.
You should also allow enough time to compile your application documents and complete the necessary language tests.
Already running late? No problem! Just get in touch with us—we’ll work together to find a suitable solution.
What language skills do I need?
Generally, you’ll need language skills at the B1 or B2 level, either in the host country’s language or in English. Many partner universities also offer English-language modules, even if English is not the country’s main language.
To prove your language level, you will usually need a DAAD language certificate. You can take the test directly at the Ostfalia Language Centre or with your foreign language lecturer if you are currently taking a language course.
How does the application process work?
1. Gather information: Find out about suitable partner universities for your faculty—either on your faculty’s website, in our partner university portal (external link, opens in a new window), or at our information events as well as those organized by your faculty.
2. Make a selection: Check which courses are available at the host university and if they are recognized for your degree. Also, consider living costs and required language skills.
3.Apply: Get in touch with your faculty's international student representative to apply for an exchange place. They will inform you about the requirements and steps necessary for your application.
4.Nomination: Once you have been offered an exchange place, your faculty’s International Coordinator will officially nominate you to us at the International Student Office (ISO).
5.Procedure after nomination: After your nomination, you will receive an e-mail from us with all the important information about the further procedure.
Will my academic achievements be recognised?
Your stay abroad is planned so it won’t delay your studies. Before you leave, you and your faculty will agree on which courses and achievements can be completed abroad and recognized by Ostfalia. This way, you will gain valuable international experience and stay on track with your studies.
