Prof Dr Günter Meyer, Dean of the Faculty of Healthcare at the Wolfsburg campus of Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, is extremely positive about the event. From October to December 2025, four lectures of the lecture series "Wissenschaf(t) - interdisciplinary impulses for the healthcare sector" took place - and all of them met with great interest. "The lecture series was very well received. There were many listeners both in the lecture theatre and in the livestream each time," says Meyer. "That's why we already have plans for 2026."
A broad spectrum of current topics in the healthcare sector
In 2025, speakers covered topics such as "Better digital care: innovation with and for patients", Prof. Dr Bianca Steiner (Ostfalia), "Art and psychiatry. An ambivalent relationship between stigmatisation and liberation", Prof. Dr Günter Meyer (Ostfalia), combined with the opening of an "outsider art exhibition" in Faculty Building G (external link, opens in a new window) or "Code meets care - AI as a pioneer of modern prevention", Prof. Dr Susanne Völter-Mahlknecht, (University Medical Centre Göttingen). Meyer: "I was particularly pleased about the lecture by my colleague from Göttingen, as it strengthens our cooperation with the University Medical Centre Göttingen."
Prof Dr Julia Siegmüller: Early diagnosis is crucial
Prof. Dr Julia Siegmüller (Ostfalia) brought the successful lecture series to a successful close on Wednesday, 17 December 2025 with her lecture on "Children's language and early support". She showed that language is labelled on DNA and explained that it is acquired in the same way all over the world and unconsciously, which is why parents have little influence. Parents have the role of attentive observers, who should pay particular attention to silent children, as one anomaly is not speaking.
If there are delays in development - for example, children speak their first word between the ages of 11 and 15 months and most children use ten different words by the age of 14 months - a specialist should be consulted immediately. According to Prof Siegmüller, it is crucial to diagnose speech development disorders as early as possible. Because: "The earlier therapy is started, the greater the chance that a child can catch up". If, on the other hand, support comes too late, success at school and later career aspirations and qualifications are jeopardised.
