Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences has honoured Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dipl.-Math. Marco Brey, Prof. Dr. Denis Royer and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jan-Frederik Lass with the Ostfalia Teaching Award for their outstanding commitment to teaching. The prizes were presented on 4 June 2025 on the occasion of the "Teaching Day", which this year took place at the Suderburg campus under the theme "Teaching for Sustainable Development". The Teaching Day is organised once a year at one of Ostfalia's four campuses on different key topics and serves as a platform for teachers to exchange ideas and continuously develop teaching formats.
"It's great that we have already established a tradition with the awarding of the teaching prizes in recent years. Good teaching in every respect is one of the most important quality features for a university. Student laboratory projects, interdisciplinary discussions on relevant topics and project work with a clear connection to current challenges - all of this motivates students to actively shape their education," said University President Prof Dr Julia Siegmüller at the award ceremony.
This year's "Best Course" teaching award went to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dipl.-Math. Marco Brey from the Faculty of Transport-Sport-Tourism-Media for his course "Hyperloop, MegaHub & Co - Innovative Solutions for Transport and Logistics". He impressed the jury above all with his varied, illustrated teaching content and clearly structured and inspiring courses on challenging topics.
Prof. Dr. Denis Royer from the Faculty of Business was also awarded the teaching prize in the "Best Course" category. With the targeted use of creative methods such as LEGO Scrum Simulation and LEGO Serious Play as well as a flipped classroom format and interactive classroom work, he was able to inspire not only students but also the jury with his course "Enterprise Information Systems and E-Commerce".
Prof. Dr. Jan-Frederik Lass from the Faculty of Automotive Engineering was honoured in the "Best Teaching" category. The jury particularly praised the dovetailing of laboratory, practical aspects and lectures, which makes even the less immediately tangible topics interesting for the students.
In addition to the teaching prizes, two state certificates for university teaching in Lower Saxony were also awarded. These went to Claudia Dinse-Ferenczi and Bettina Berthold-Löffler, both lecturers at the Faculty of Business.
