The Ostfalia campus in Salzgitter-Calbecht offers many a surprise. Contrary to some expectations, it is by no means a boring industrial site. Quite the opposite: some of the historic buildings are listed and there is even the shaft of the former ore mining operation on the campus. Extensively expanded and modernised - for example with the new media building including a television studio - the campus is now a modern campus with top facilities surrounded by greenery.
The Faculty of Transport, Sport, Tourism and Media
As the name suggests, the Faculty of Transport, Sports, Tourism and Media offers a wide range of subjects. Here you can choose from over 20 Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in the fields of mobility, communication, design, media, tourism, sports, city and regional management and applied psychology and marketing.

Straight into a job after graduation - the best way to do this is with a good network plus experience in professional practice. Every year, students at the Salzgitter campus organise events for their specialist audience. These include, for example, "blickpunkt sportmanagement", the largest student-organised sports management congress in Europe. At the Ostfalia Media Forum (external link, opens in a new window), students invite companies and interested parties to the campus for professional dialogue and networking. A job fair and the presentation of their work offers a further opportunity to make important contacts during their studies.
Once a year, Bachelor's and Master's students from the design degree programmes present their student work from a wide range of design fields, such as animation, games, communication design and interactive design. The best exhibits are honoured by a jury with the Ostfalia Media Awards Salzgitter. If you want to get involved or meet up with other students outside of the curriculum, the student groups on campus - such as the Ostfalia Media Network, SPO-MAN or the GameSZclub - are just the place for you.
Housing and living in Salzgitter
Salzgitter has made a name for itself as an industrial city and continues to live up to its reputation: Salzgitter is the third-largest industrial location in Lower Saxony with the largest inland port in northern Germany and the world's largest IKEA distribution centre. Companies such as MAN and Salzgitter AG are based in Salzgitter, as are numerous medium-sized companies.
Nature close to the city
But the city with over 100,000 inhabitants also has other sides to it: historic buildings and art in public spaces, city festivals, friendly residential areas surrounded by greenery and, last but not least, the Salzgittersee water sports centre (external link, opens in a new window). With its 1.5 kilometre long beach and excellent water quality, it is a fantastic spot for water rats, bathing beauties, surfing fans or simply sun-seekers. You can go hiking or mountain biking in the mixed forests of the Lichtenberge. One of the strongest natural thermal brine springs in Germany bubbles up in the spa town of Salzgitter-Bad.
