Felix Warsawa, Media Design programme at the Ostfalia Campus Salzgitter:

"During the semester break, I will be travelling to Ukraine for the third time this year to continue my work on my documentary film with the working title 'Ukraine: Everyday Life in a State of Emergency'. The focus will be on the cities of Lviv and Kyiv, where I will document the atmosphere and everyday life of the people with my camera - a life between normality and a state of emergency. I am interested in the seemingly unspectacular, everyday moments that are characterised by resilience and hope and that take on a special significance at this time. I want to use long takes and sound recordings to bring the atmosphere on location to life.

In addition to the film, I also create content for Instagram and TikTok to show directly what touches, moves and inspires me. During my stay, I will be working in volunteer centres so that I can get to know and understand the local people even better. Follow me on Instagram, my profile is @fwarsawa (external link, opens in a new window)."

Alexandra Schmidt, Social Work degree programme at the Ostfalia campus in Wolfenbüttel:

"During the lecture-free period, I'm going to start researching literature for my Bachelor's thesis. And I want to fly to Romania to visit my family in the Carpathians to recharge my batteries before the BA."

Jana Freist, Social Work degree programme at the Ostfalia Campus Suderburg:

"Before the sixth and therefore last semester starts, I'm travelling to Lisbon (external link, opens in a new window) for a week with three fellow students and now good friends. We want to explore the Portuguese capital, soak up the sun and take a deep breath before we start our Bachelor's thesis. Last summer we travelled to Prague together."

Leon Thommes, Social Work degree programme at the Ostfalia campus in Wolfenbüttel:

"I will be doing a six-week internship abroad in Sri Lanka in mid-August. I got the internship through the AIESEC (external link, opens in a new window) organisation. It organises internships and social projects for young people abroad. In Sri Lanka, I'll be looking after sea turtles and hopefully ensuring their survival."

Luc Niewerth, Computer Science programme at the Ostfalia campus in Wolfenbüttel:

"During the lecture-free period and in my free time in general, I enjoy volunteering at sporting events in Germany. Most recently, I was there in mid-June during the group phase of the European Women's Basketball Championship in (external link, opens in a new window) Hamburg. In the Court Assistance department, I was able to watch the games and training sessions of the national teams up close on the sidelines and play my part in making the event a success. I got to know a lot of great people from near and far, who I will most likely meet again at other events.

The mixture of different activities and the community is a lot of fun and makes me look forward to being back at the next event."

Nicole Neumann, Social Work degree programme at the Ostfalia Campus Suderburg:

"I will be doing several internships in different areas during the lecture-free period. I want to broaden my horizons and gain valuable insights for my future working life. I have already secured a place in a day group for children with special needs and behaviour. I will most likely do another internship at a family education centre. I also have a part-time job at the Allgemeine Zeitung Uelzen (external link, opens in a new window) newspaper to finance my studies. Apart from that, I'm enjoying the summer with hobbies like baking and I'm looking forward to the new semester and my fellow students."

René Harms, Social Work degree programme at the Ostfalia Campus Wolfenbüttel:

"Until 11 July, I was in the project-oriented study of module 10 at Hospizarbeit Region Wolfsburg e.V.. I completed 180 hours there, which are required in the fifth semester. Immediately afterwards, on 14 July, I started my five-week in-depth internship at the Gifhorn office of the Ambulant Justizsozialdienst (external link, opens in a new window) (AJSD, Hildesheim district). The internship is full-time, so I won't be on holiday until 18 August ..."

Sophia Schuch, project manager of the wob-racing (external link, opens in a new window)team at the Ostfalia campus in Wolfsburg:

"During the lecture-free period, I'm building a racing car and travelling across Europe to compete with this racing car against other teams in the Formula Student (external link, opens in a new window)! And all this with almost 50 other students from all Ostfalia campuses!

We are the wob-racing team. I think projects like this show just how creative and committed Ostfalia students are in their free time. We have exciting tasks for everyone: from design and mechanics to project management and personnel management, budget planning and sponsoring, right through to social media and graphic design. We cover everything that you will need in a company later on. That's how practical and inspiring studying at Ostfalia can be!"
