Amro Elsherbini, a student at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and Durio Ngnimpea, a student at the Faculty of Computer Science, have each been awarded a STIBET scholarship. They will receive 600 euros a month from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) for a period of three months, enabling them to focus more effectively on their final-year projects.
Amro Elsherbini, a 31-year-old Master’s student from Egypt, was nominated by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bülent Yagimli , who is supervising his final-year project at the Institute for Design and Applied Mechatronics (IKAM). Under the title “Mechatronic Development and Design of a Test Bench for Measuring Forces, Speed and Temperature on Elastomer Samples”, Elsherbini is developing a measurement system that is intended for use not only in research but also in teaching in future. This will enable mechanical engineering students to gain practical experience with a real test bench whilst still studying. Elsherbini aims to successfully complete his Master’s degree by the end of September 2026.
The 26-year-old Bachelor’s student Durio Ngnimpea is working on a topic that is equally relevant to the future. In his thesis, “AI-assisted code generation in software development – evaluation of the quality, maintainability and security of automatically generated code bases”, he is investigating the capabilities of modern AI tools such as GitHub Copilot and ChatGPT. To this end, he has both systems solve identical programming tasks and then evaluates the results using professional analysis tools. He is supervised by Prof. Dr Leonard Marten Renners from the Faculty of Computer Science.
About the DAAD’s STIBET programme
STIBET is a funding programme run by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which is financed by the Federal Foreign Office. It supports international students at German universities and, amongst other things, enables the awarding of graduation scholarships. The aim is to provide support to particularly committed students in the final phase of their studies, so that they can successfully complete their final theses.
To select the scholarship recipients, the International Student Office at Ostfalia regularly asks professors from the faculties to submit nominations. In addition to academic achievement, the focus is particularly on commitment, motivation and the prospects of successfully completing the degree.
