With the Ostfalia app, a new digital service is now available to students, employees and guests of the university. In this interview, Sina Ciesielski, Digital Information Officer at Ostfalia University, explains the advantages it offers and what else there is to know.

From mailing to canteen - everything in one place

Vera Huber, Ostfalia Editorial Team: What advantages does the UniNow app offer university members?
Sina Ciesielski : There are three user groups in the app: students, employees and guests - and each group has different benefits accordingly. The aim is of course to provide the best possible digital service for students, that is always our aim! We are currently still working on improving one or two things, but the app already offers many advantages: Everything in one place, mailing and canteen - that's already very important! There are also links to Ostfalia's most important digital systems, such as Moodle and Nextcloud. The app also displays the OstfaliaCard and the digital Deutschland Ticket for students. It is possible to access your own library account and check whether you still have an outstanding balance and which books you need to return. With the jump to the digital workplace, you are also directly connected to everyone and can communicate via our Ostfalia chat.

Tips & interesting facts for users

Will there be more functions in the foreseeable future?
Sina Ciesielski: Yes! We are now starting with version 1 and would then like to gradually expand the digital service for students. Major topics such as contactless payment and a link to the student union are on our list.

Where can I find information and user tips about the app?
Sina Ciesielski : The app is quite intuitive to use. You can also find helpful information in the university wiki (external link, opens in a new window) - for example, how to integrate your mailbox via imap.

Which functions do you use most frequently?
Sina Ciesielski: The newsfeed, the notifications and the list of links to important things, such as the building management ticket system or the university sports courses.
My tip: Go to the App Store, enter Ostfalia and stay up to date with the Ostfalia app!
