Seven students, alumni and professors from Wolfenbüttel have pulled off a sporting coup: As the regatta team of the Ostfalia sailing group, they defended their title in the Lessing Cup. The team led by skipper Florian Hohmann beat seven other teams, all of whom also have close ties to the city of Wolfenbüttel. Every two years, they compete in a traditional sailing competition off the Croatian Adriatic coast for the Lessing Cup, the most coveted trophy in the regional sailing community.
Top conditions for regatta on the Croatian Adriatic
This year, eight identical Dufour 41 sailing yachts, built in 2025, set off on six exciting races across the Adriatic. The conditions were perfect: from light winds of 8 knots to strong 28 knots, pure sunshine and temperatures between 25 and 35 degrees. After the sporting challenges, the crews moored in the harbour or looked for a quiet anchorage. "We cultivated team spirit and enjoyed a well-earned cool-down in the clear, cool water," says skipper Florian Hohmann.
Strong team effort by the Ostfalia team
Alongside him, co-skipper Alexander Feilke, Holger Brüggemann, Jürgen Kreyssig, Kersten Kulik, Jakob Piontek and Nicklas Reder were part of the Ostfalia crew. Together they sailed a total of 154 nautical miles - from Biograd in Croatia via numerous small islands as turning points in several days to the Šibenik Channel. "The teamwork on board, the changing wind conditions and the shared joy of sailing make this cup a very special experience every time," says Hohmann.
Special workshop offer: Social skills sailing
By the way: Ostfalia regularly offers “social skills sailing” workshops – the last one took place from September 14 to 19. The trip took place on the Baltic Sea from Flensburg via Dyvig, Sonderborg, and Aerosund back to Flensburg. Would you like to join in?
