The car remains the most important means of transport in Germany, but the proportion of journeys made on foot, by bicycle, and by bus and train is slowly increasing, particularly in towns and cities. This is shown, for example, by the nationwide study “Mobility in Germany” conducted by the Federal Ministry of Transport. Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences now wants to find out what matters to people in Wolfsburg when it comes to mobility by conducting an online survey.

The team at the Institute for Transport Management is asking how people in Wolfsburg experience different modes of transport such as cars, buses, trains, cycling and walking: “We want to gain as diverse a picture as possible of how people think about mobility in Wolfsburg,” says Jana Kühl, Professor of Cycling Management and project lead for AutoRad. The survey is part of the AutoRad project, which examines the image of the bicycle in regions dominated by car use.

Through the survey, the research team is identifying what people in the region want for their mobility. “The results will help to develop concrete starting points for mobility in Wolfsburg that is suitable for both everyday life and the future. At the same time, the study shows how the topic of mobility can positively influence the region’s future image,” explains Kühl.

Anyone aged 16 or over who lives in Wolfsburg or travels there regularly is warmly invited to take part in the survey and share their views – regardless of whether they usually travel by car, bike, on foot or by public transport. The survey is completed online and takes around 15 minutes. All data is collected in such a way that it is not possible to identify individual respondents. Five gift vouchers worth 50 euros each will be raffled off amongst all participants.

The survey is available online in German, English, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic and Turkish until 30 June 2026: www.ostfalia.de/autorad (external link, opens in a new window).
