Ostfalia sailing group celebrates its 10th anniversary

The Ostfalia sailing group has existed for exactly 10 years. The first theoretical training for a small group of 8 sailing enthusiasts was provided by the founder of the sailing group, Prof Dr Rolf Roskam, in 2015. This was followed in the summer of 2016 by practical training on a sailing trip to the Danish South Sea, which concluded with the demanding examination for a pleasure craft coastal licence (SKS).

Since then, new sailing enthusiasts have joined every year. In addition, many of the trained sailors returned to the training trips in the following years to continue their training as co-skippers. Further training is now also available in a seminar programme for professionals, which is recognised as educational leave and helps to improve personal skills.

Since the sailing group was founded, over 100 people have been trained to SKS. 13 skippers, most of whom were trained in the sailing group, now form the basis for the further training of new people interested in sailing.

This year, two trips with a total of 11 sailing yachts are being offered, on which more than 30 alumni and alumnae are taking part alongside the 18 SKS sailing students. The two-week cruise runs from Heiligenhafen around Zealand to Copenhagen and back again. In addition, the Ostfalia sailing group will once again be represented at the Lessing Cup in Croatia in September, where the regatta crew intends to defend its first place from the last Cup.
