In mid-June, the Salzgitter Campus welcomed around 130 Year 11 pupils from the Salzgitter schools: Gymnasium am Fredenberg, Gymnasium Salzgitter-Bad and the Fredenberg Vocational School. The focus of the visit was on career guidance and gaining a practical insight into studying at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences.
The Central Student Advisory Service was on hand
To kick things off, the Central Student Advisory Service focused on the questions: “What sets a university apart?” and “What study options are available at Ostfalia?”. The pupils were given an overview of the distinctive features of studying at a university, as well as the wide range of subjects on offer at Ostfalia. This was followed by a ‘speed-dating’ session with the degree programmes: in short discussion rounds, the pupils had the opportunity to talk directly to lecturers and students, ask individual questions and find out about course content and career prospects.
A campus tour brought university life to life
A tour of the campus then gave them a tangible sense of university life. The programme included visits to the film studio, the railway operations simulator and the audio studio. This gave the guests a first-hand insight into the modern facilities and practice-oriented teaching at the Salzgitter campus. After a break in the canteen, the group returned refreshed to the day-to-day academic routine: the pupils were able to choose from three different lectures and thus experience for themselves how a course is run at Ostfalia.
Through this open day, Ostfalia aims to support pupils at an early stage with their study and career guidance and to showcase the wide range of study options available locally in Salzgitter.
