How can we establish a mobility culture in which everyone's needs are recognised and sustainable options become the means of choice? The conference "Modalities - Mobility Cultures on the Move" examines the key levers in politics, planning, society and infrastructure design that can be used to bring about this cultural change.
The conference is being organised by Prof. Dr Jana Kühl and her team from the Ostfalia Endowed Professorship for Cycling Management on Thursday, 4 September (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) at the Haus der Wissenschaft in Braunschweig. The seven BMV endowed professorships for cycling throughout Germany are actively involved in organising the conference and contributing their expertise.
"We want to look at cycling and the mobility cultures of the future from a scientific perspective, share knowledge, tackle challenges and sharpen solutions," says Ostfalia Professor Dr Jana Kühl.
Although cycling has picked up speed in recent years, a diverse and sustainable mobility culture requires conditions that invite people to engage in sustainable mobility and that change social habits and beliefs. "The bicycle is increasingly becoming part of social mobility cultures and is therefore becoming a natural means of transport for more and more people. A cultural change is also evident in transport planning, with new services being created and standards being set. But this development is not a sure-fire success," says the Ostfalia professor of cycle traffic management.
The conference offers:
- Presentations by experts researching mobility cultures from the perspectives of politics, society, media and infrastructures,
- Interactive sessions and the opportunity to contribute your own perspectives,
- Opportunity for exchange and networking with peers.
The event is free of charge and is aimed at all interested parties from science, politics, practice and everyone who is concerned with the topic of mobility in everyday life. There will be lectures, parallel sessions and open spaces with a total of 30 speakers.
