The "Social Work Online" Bachelor's degree programme will start at Ostfalia University in September 2026. The degree programme is aimed in particular at professionals who want to develop their professional skills and get involved in society, but need to remain flexible.

"With this course, we are offering working people the opportunity to study for a professional qualification at a state university, which they can optimally reconcile with their professional or family commitments," says course director Prof. Dr Björn Hermstein. "The concept combines flexible learning experiences with personal encounters at the Suderburg campus, for example with three to four face-to-face meetings per semester."

The admission-free "Social Work Online" course teaches theoretical knowledge and practical skills, including crisis counselling, the application of legal and ethical guidelines, methods of social research and the reflective further development of one's own skills.

Graduates receive a Bachelor's degree in Social Work after completing the programme. Possible fields of employment include municipal social and educational work, daycare and school social work, work with people with disabilities, family and addiction counselling, migration and integration work as well as work in street work, clinics, social psychiatric services, child and youth welfare or in public service offices.

With a Bachelor's degree and state recognition, graduates can enter the profession directly. There is also the opportunity to gain further professional qualifications, for example in Ostfalia's Master's degree programmes, which build on the Bachelor's degree in Social Work.

Applications can be submitted from mid-May 2026. The winter semester starts on 1 September 2026.
