Part-time study
In accordance with § 19 Para. 2 NHG in conjunction with the Ostfalia guidelines for part-time study, the universities may permit enrolment or re-registration for part-time study for suitable degree programmes. Part-time study is only permitted for two consecutive semesters. Part-time study is intended to reduce the work and time load for students as well as the required weekly attendance time at the university by approximately half.
Please note that not all degree programmes are offered on a part-time basis!
You can find more information in the overview list (PDF, 76.99 KB) (opens in a new window), (not accessible) of faculties that offer part-time study programmes.
How can I apply for part-time study and what deadlines must be observed?
The application for part-time study can be submitted up to one week before re-registration, for first-year students up to enrolment for two consecutive semesters. At the end of the requested period, a new application must be submitted, otherwise you will automatically continue studying "full-time" after the two requested semesters have expired.
Effects of part-time study on study and examination achievements
A maximum of 50% of the coursework and examinations of the corresponding full-time degree programme can be completed. Repeats of registered and failed examinations from a previous semester are not recognised.
Important - please note before submitting your application
Switching to part-time study can have serious consequences for certain benefits and entitlements, for example: BAföG, scholarships, child benefit, health insurance, residence permits for foreign students (immigration authorities), etc. Please clarify the possible consequences for you personally directly with the relevant office before submitting your application.
