On 15 October 2026, Prof. Dr. Winfried Huck, visiting researcher at the at the Institute for European and International Business Law (EIW), gave a lecture at the international academic conference “Algorithmic Ethics, Human Dignity: Bioethical Challenges of AI” at the University of Zielona Góra in Poland.
In a talk entitled “The Triple Imperfection of Artificial Intelligence, Human Agency, and Legal Orders”, Winfried Huck examined the interplay between three fundamental imperfections: the limitations of artificial intelligence, human capacity for action and decision-making, and the incompleteness of legal systems.
The focus was on the question of how, under these conditions, legal responsibility, human dignity and effective control can be ensured in the use of artificial intelligence. In this context, the importance of a transparent legal methodology as the basis for responsible decision-making was emphasised.
The conference took place on 15 and 16 October 2026 and, with numerous contributions from the UK, the USA, Portugal, Vietnam and Greece, amongst others, provided an international forum for interdisciplinary exchange on the ethical, bioethical and legal challenges posed by artificial intelligence.
Special thanks go to the organisers, Prof. Martyna Laszewska-Hellriegel and Prof. Ewa Szewczyk, as well as the entire conference team.
The presentation was developed as an interactive, trilingual web application in German, English and Polish and is available on request.
