The new Bachelor's degree programme "Health Economics and Management" starts in September 2026. The course starts in both the summer and winter semesters. The degree programme is aimed at high school graduates and professionally qualified individuals who would like to take on management roles in the healthcare sector - for example in hospitals, care facilities, health insurance companies, the pharmaceutical industry or other healthcare providers.

Healthcare in transition - skilled workers wanted

"Healthcare is an exciting field and essential for every individual and for society as a whole. Like many industries, the healthcare sector is facing major challenges: demographic change, a shortage of skilled workers, digitalisation," says course director Prof. Dr Martin Frank. "With our new degree programme, we are qualifying future specialists to actively shape these developments - with a clear practical focus and a sound business education."

The curriculum includes economics and business administration, management methods and financial management, law, public health, quality and care management, digitalisation and data analytics as well as organisational and personnel management. The specialised content is supplemented by key skills such as communication, teamwork and diversity. Compulsory elective modules allow for individual specialisations.

Practical studies - closely networked with the region

A very central element of the degree programme is the close integration with practice. Students work on realistic case studies throughout the programme - often in cooperation with regional hospitals, care facilities, health insurance companies and other healthcare facilities. In the final year of the programme, a 13-week practical phase in a healthcare facility is firmly anchored in the curriculum. There, students apply the knowledge they have acquired directly and establish contacts with potential employers.

Classroom and online phases and diverse career prospects

"We have specifically organised the course in such a way that it also allows a great deal of freedom for students to work alongside their studies," explains course director Prof. Dr Martin Frank. The degree programme is delivered in a blended learning format, i.e. with a combination of classroom and online phases, in which flexible learning opportunities (e.g. learning videos) can also be used. This makes it easy to combine the programme with work or family commitments.

Graduates have a wide range of opportunities after completing the programme, for example in hospitals and rehabilitation clinics, care facilities, health insurance companies, pharmaceutical and medical technology companies, management consultancies, associations or healthcare and healthcare policy projects.

The application phase is underway. The winter semester starts on 1 September 2026.
