Under the slogan “Meet your future @Ostfalia!”, Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, together with its partner companies, is hosting a “Dual Study Programme Recruiting Night” at the Wolfenbüttel campus on Thursday, 24 September 2026, from 5.30 pm to 8 pm. Prospective students can find out about dual study programmes in the fields of engineering and IT, engage directly with companies, and get advice on applications and careers. The faculties of Electrical and Information Technology, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and Supply Engineering are taking part. The range of programmes on offer extends from Computer Science and Business Informatics, through Mechanical Engineering and Digital Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, to Electrical and Information Technology, Energy and Building Services Engineering, as well as various Industrial Engineering programmes.
A dual study programme in a work-based learning partnership at Ostfalia combines academic training with intensive practical experience in a company, as this model alternates between periods of study and practical training. This enables students to gain valuable experience in the world of work at an early stage and, in some programmes, to obtain two professionally qualifying qualifications.
“We offer young people the opportunity to take on responsibility at an early stage, to apply the knowledge acquired during their studies directly in practice and, at the same time, to develop clear career prospects,” says Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thorsten Uelzen from the Faculty of Electrical and Information Technology at Ostfalia. “Well-trained specialists are urgently needed, particularly in technical and digital professions. The Recruiting Night brings prospective students and companies together in person at an early stage – and this is precisely where a great opportunity lies for both sides.”
On 24 September, school pupils will have the opportunity to make direct contact with renowned companies from the region. Questions regarding the application process can also be clarified on the spot. The more than 20 participating industry partners include, amongst others, AGCO, Alstom, Bosch, BS|ENERGY, EEW Energy from Waste, MAN Truck & Bus, Peiner Träger, the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Salzgitter Flachstahl, Siemens Mobility, Volkswagen and Voith Turbo.
The programme begins at 5.30 pm with discussions at the company stands and with the Student Advisory Service in the foyer of the lecture theatre centre. At 6.30 pm, there will be a welcome address and a Q&A session with students, graduates and teaching staff from Ostfalia, as well as HR representatives from the partner companies. Afterwards, there will be another opportunity for personal discussions until 8 pm.
Current figures from the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) also show that dual study programmes are attracting more and more young people and companies: in 2024, 113,526 students nationwide were enrolled in 1,824 dual study programmes. Since 2004, the number of dual-study students has thus almost tripled. At the same time, the number of partnership places offered by companies has risen from around 18,200 to approximately 52,000 over the same period. At Ostfalia, 1,354 students were enrolled in a total of 19 work-integrated degree programmes during the 2025/26 winter semester. This represents 13 per cent of all students.
