At the start of the 2026/27 winter semester, 2,240 new students are expected to enrol at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences. 500 of them have chosen one of the Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programmes offered by the Faculty of Transport, Sport, Tourism and Media at Ostfalia’s Salzgitter campus. On Monday 21 September, they were officially welcomed to the campus by Dean Prof. Dr Marc-Christian Ollrog, Ostfalia Vice-President Prof. Dr Ina Schiering and Stefan Klein, Lord Mayor of the City of Salzgitter.
Prof. Dr Ina Schiering, Vice-President for Research, Development and Technology Transfer: “You are studying at a university that does not view disciplinary boundaries as limits to thinking. Today, engineers must think just as much about sustainability and social implications as social scientists do about digitalisation. Business needs technology. Technology needs responsibility. And artificial intelligence needs people who understand what they are doing with it. It is precisely these connections that we want to foster.”
Dean Prof. Dr Marc-Christian Ollrog said: “No matter which course of study you have chosen: you are all sitting here today because you do not simply want to wait passively for the future. You are here because you want to roll up your sleeves and actively help shape that future. And that is exactly why Ostfalia, and Salzgitter, is the perfect place for this.”
The welcome address marked the conclusion of Welcome Week, during which the faculty, together with the General Student Council (AStA), welcomed the new students to the Salzgitter campus.
During Welcome Week, which began on 14 September, first-year students were able to make their first contacts at various events, explore the campus and learn a great deal about the university and their studies. Student mentors and the AStA, together with university representatives, had put together a varied programme for the new students, including introductory workshops on writing coaching, barbecue picnics, chill-out sessions at the AStA and a trip to Salzgitter Lake with volleyball and disc golf.
