The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences welcomed eleven international students as part of the International Summer University (ISU) from 12 to 23 May 2025. Together with fellow Ostfalia students, students from the renowned Purdue University (USA) took part in English-language lectures and practice-oriented excursions on the subject of renewable energies.

The intensive two-week programme focused on current developments and innovative technologies in the fields of wind and hydropower, solar energy, efficient energy transmission and charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. Guest lecturers from the USA presented country-specific approaches and provided informative impulses that complemented the courses offered by Ostfalia professors.

The highlights of the programme were subject-specific excursions, including to the Dardesheim wind farm, the Solvis company in Braunschweig and the Klimahaus Bremerhaven. Here, the participants gained insights into the practice of sustainable energy generation and utilisation.

All participants successfully completed the examinations and took home a wealth of professional and personal experience from the international exchange programme. "The consistently positive feedback confirms the success of this year's Summer University," says a delighted Prof. Dr. Thorbjörn Siaenen, head and organiser of the ISU.

The International Summer University (ISU) was organised for the 16th time this year. It has gained an outstanding reputation in the field of renewable energies and provides students from both universities with valuable academic and cultural enrichment. Purdue University, where astronaut Neil Armstrong also studied, enables its students to attend the International Summer University at Ostfalia. In return, students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology can spend a semester abroad at Purdue University.
