"Crack the goody bag! Build the fastest electric motor" - this is the motto of the 7th competition for young people, to which the Faculty of Supply Engineering at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences invites all pupils from general and vocational schools in the region.
"This time, the aim is to build a functional electric motor from a grab bag of components provided by us to set a CD disc in rotation. The team that gets the CD spinning the fastest wins," says initiator Prof Dr Henning Zindler, explaining the task of the "Energy Awards 2026". As support, the Ostfalia scientist offers the young researchers the opportunity to visit the school in advance to provide initial input and answer questions.
The aim of the competition, which is endowed with 1200 euros, is to get pupils interested in technology and energy technology in particular.
The teams have until 16 January 2026 to submit their results, which will be assessed by a panel of experts. In addition to Prof Dr Henning Zindler, the jury also includes Ostfalia scientists Prof Dr Gernot Wilhelms and Prof Dr Benno Lendt. The award ceremony will take place on 27 January 2026 at 4 pm at the Ostfalia campus in Wolfenbüttel.
