On 4 June 2025, students participating in the DAAD-SDG Partnerships Project “Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals – India, Nepal and Germany” gathered at restaurant L’Oliveto in Wolfenbüttel for a heartfelt farewell dinner marking the conclusion of their academic stay at Brunswick European Law School (BELS), Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences.
The evening brought together students and faculty in an atmosphere of warmth, gratitude, and celebration. They were joined by their esteemed professors: Prof. Dr. Peter Mann, Prof. Dr. Udo Wolfgang Becker, and Prof. Dr. Olaf Schlotmann and also Dr. Ruth Areli García León - each of whom played a significant role in guiding and supporting the cohort throughout their stay.
During the dinner, students offered thoughtful reflections on their time at BELS and shared how the DAAD-SDG project had significantly enriched their understanding of sustainability, legal frameworks, and the importance of cross-cultural dialogue. Many articulated how the programme had deepened their appreciation for interdisciplinary learning, enhanced their critical thinking about global challenges, and instilled a renewed sense of purpose regarding their roles as future change-makers. They acknowledged that the experience had not only contributed to their academic growth but had also strengthened their sense of civic responsibility and ethical commitment to sustainable development in a rapidly evolving global landscape. Several also highlighted the value of engaging with comparative legal perspectives and the practical insights gained from interacting with peers from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds.
Beyond the formal reflections, the evening was filled with laughter, casual conversations, and joyful moments. Professors and students alike shared stories, exchanged light-hearted anecdotes, and celebrated the friendships forged over the course of the programme.
This farewell gathering served not only as a closing chapter of their academic journey in Germany but also as a poignant reminder of the enduring connections, transformative learning, and shared values that will accompany the participants as they continue their professional and academic endeavours. It was a dignified celebration of a journey marked by academic achievement, personal growth, cultural immersion, and international solidarity—one that will undoubtedly influence their perspectives and actions in the years to come.
The success of the event and the programme as a whole stands as a testament to the importance of transnational academic partnerships in addressing complex global issues. It also reflects the vital role of international education in cultivating responsible global citizens equipped to contribute meaningfully to sustainable and inclusive development.
