Traditionally, most students start in the winter semester, but around 550 first-semester students will also begin their studies at one of the four campuses of Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences in the summer semester of 2026. 170 of them have opted for a degree programme in the fields of healthcare, business or automotive engineering at the Wolfsburg campus.

The new students were officially welcomed to Wolfsburg on 2 March 2026 by Prof. Dr Thomas Benda, Vice President for Teaching, Studies and Continuing Education, Prof. Dr Denis Royer, Dean of the Faculty of Business and location representative in Wolfsburg, and Jens Hofschröer, Head of Digital and Economic Affairs for the City of Wolfsburg.

Vice President Thomas Benda wished the first-year students all the best for their new phase of life and encouraged them to get involved in everyday university life beyond just studying: "Numbers and scientific facts will undoubtedly be important for you in the coming years. But please never forget the things that are particularly close to your heart. If the content of your degree programme is one of those things close to your heart, then nothing can really go wrong!"

Jens Hofschröer, who conveyed the best wishes of the city of Wolfsburg, said: "You are our future, I am very aware of that as Head of Economic Affairs. Talk about the positive things you experience here in Wolfsburg."

Following the joint welcome in the Audimax, each faculty started its own programme of events with campus tours, introductions to the IT infrastructure and learning platforms and the opportunity to get to know other university services, such as learning coaching, student advisory services and student initiatives and projects.

In addition to the welcome events, there is a first semester website with all the important information. At www.ostfalia.de/erst semester (external link, opens in a new window), new Ostfalia students can find useful contacts and information on support services for the start of their studies.
