What is it like to start a career in social work and what diverse fields of practice are there to discover? Answers to these and other questions can be found at the Market of Opportunities, which the Faculty of Social Work at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences is offering for the second time on Thursday, 11 September 2025. The event will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. on the Am Exer campus in Building 11 in Wolfenbüttel.

Around 45 providers and organisations from across the region have confirmed their participation. They represent the enormous spectrum of social work and present themselves as potential employers. The thematic spectrum ranges from child and youth welfare, integration and addiction support, health promotion and social psychiatry to specific fields of work in justice-related social work, community and neighbourhood work as well as queer and sexual education work.

The Market of Opportunities is intended to give students and prospective students valuable insights into everyday working life and enable them to make contacts for internships or career entry.

This gives them the chance to familiarise themselves with the variety of career prospects in social work in one afternoon and to expand their own professional network. The Faculty of Social Work would like to actively promote the exchange between students and practitioners.

"The large number of participants from so many organisations is a strong sign of how important personal exchange is in our sector," explains Prof Dr Sandra Müller, Dean of the Faculty of Social Work. "The direct encounter enables students to gain authentic insights and ask questions that go beyond a mere job description. We are delighted to facilitate this important networking at Ostfalia." Bettina Denecke, Head of the Practice Office at the faculty, emphasises: "A website can never replace a personal impression. We encourage our students to soak up the atmosphere and get a feel for the culture and the people behind the organisations. It is often precisely this personal 'fit' that is crucial for a successful internship or a successful career start."
