On Future Day (formerly known as Girls' Day and Boys' Day), around 175 pupils at all four Ostfalia locations were able to gain exciting insights into study, research and professional fields that they might not otherwise have considered. The programmes ranged from technology and computer science to law and business, social work and healthcare.
Insights beyond role clichés
Future Day is a nationwide day of action with a clear aim: to familiarise school pupils with professions in which women or men have been underrepresented to date. This is why the activities are organised separately for girls and boys.
While girls explore technical and scientific fields in particular, boys gain insights into social, educational or healthcare professions. "It is important to give girls and boys an insight into career and study areas that most of them would not otherwise have any contact with and that do not correspond to their usual career choice behaviour," says Daniela Kock, contact person for the Future Day at Ostfalia.
Join in and try things out
At all locations, the focus was on getting active, gaining insights into new topics and gaining personal experience. In Wolfenbüttel, the programme ranged from wind tunnel experiments, robotics and programming to legal insights, for example in a quiz on AI images.
At the Wolfsburg campus, students were able to try out modern vehicle technology, practise first aid and build their future with Lego Serious Play. In Suderburg, the programme included practical exercises such as microscopy and measuring as well as insights into social work. At the Salzgitter campus, students were able to get to know study programmes such as sport, transport and logistics and help with the repair of library books.
