FAQs

University entrance qualification

My documents have already been checked once by uni-assist - do I have to apply again via uni-assist?

If you have already applied via uni-assist and your documents have been checked, you will have received an official check report from uni-assist, the so-called VPD (external link, opens in a new window) (Vorprüfungsdokumentation - not older than two years). If you can present this VPD, you do not have to reapply via uni-assist. Instead, you can apply directly via our online application portal (external link, opens in a new window).

I was at a preparatory college - do I have to apply via uni-assist?

If you have obtained your higher education entrance qualification from a state-recognised preparatory college in Germany by passing the assessment test, you do not need to apply via uni-assist. Instead, you can apply directly via our online application portal (external link, opens in a new window).

How do I apply for the Studienkolleg?

You cannot apply directly for the preparatory college. If you are interested in a Bachelor's degree programme, apply via uni-assist. Uni-assist will check your higher education entrance qualification and forward your application to us. If you have an indirect university entrance qualification, we will register you at the Niedersächsisches Studienkolleg and you will receive an e-mail from us with information on the further procedure.

You can find more information on the Niedersächsisches Studienkolleg (external link, opens in a new window) website.

German language skills

Which language certificate do I need?

For Bachelor's degree programmes

In order to be able to study at our university, foreign applicants must provide proof of their German language skills by means of a recognised language certificate.

The list of recognised language certificates including language levels and any exceptions for submitting a language certificate (e.g. completed vocational training in Germany) can be found here (PDF, 108.40 KB) (opens in a new window), (not accessible).

For Master's degree programmes

For individual consecutive Master's degree programmes and individual postgraduate Master's degree programmes , different regulations apply according to the admission regulations. You can find the respective admission regulations further up on this page.

Educational certificates lost on the run - what now?

If you have lost your educational certificates and are interested in a Bachelor's degree programme, apply via uni-assist. As part of the application process, you fill out a so-called self-disclosure form (external link, opens in a new window), which will be checked by uni-assist. After your application has been checked, you have two options:

  1. Have you applied for an admission-free Bachelor's degree programme?

In this case, we will register you for the entrance test at the Niedersächsisches Studienkolleg. This always takes place on 1st September (winter semester) and 1st March (summer semester). If you pass the entrance test with an above-average result and you can demonstrate the German language skills required for the programme, you will receive a letter of admission from us.

  2. Have you applied for a Bachelor's degree programme with restricted admission?

In this case, we will register you for the entrance test at the Niedersächsisches Studienkolleg. This always takes place on 1st September (winter semester) and 1st March (summer semester). Once you have passed the entrance test and the subsequent assessment test (in January or July), you will receive a direct university entrance qualification and can apply directly via our online application portal.

Further information can be found on the Niedersächsisches Studienkolleg (external link, opens in a new window) website.

Can I apply for guest student status?

Yes, you can apply for guest student status, even if you have lost your educational qualifications while fleeing, for example. Formal proof of higher education entrance qualification is not required for a guest auditor.

You can find detailed information on how to apply for guest lectureship on our website: Guest Auditor Programme

Please note: You cannot obtain a degree via a guest auditor programme.
