ZuKUNSToff – Experiencing the circularity of plastics in everyday life

Understanding plastics: both a valuable resource and a pollutant

It is hard to imagine everyday life without plastics. They enable a wide range of applications, can be durable and resilient, and can be designed to meet various requirements. At the same time, their use and disposal pose challenges for the environment and society – particularly when valuable materials are lost and not returned to suitable recycling loops.

As part of the ZuKUNSToff project, Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, in collaboration with the phaeno Science Centre in Wolfsburg, has developed interactive activities that bring scientific insights into plastics and recycling to life for a wide audience. Exhibitions, experiments and creative educational formats combine knowledge of materials with design and social issues.

The focus is not merely on how plastics can be recycled. The project also encourages people to reflect on the use of resources, different approaches to solving problems and a sustainable approach to plastics.
