What do you earn as a professor?

Anyone who moves from a very well-paid position in business or industry to a university of applied sciences as a professor is motivated by the freedom to organise their work. The opportunity to set and work on your own topics is our greatest benefit.

Professors appointed by Ostfalia are generally appointed as civil servants for life. They do not have to pay into the statutory social security system and are entitled to benefits in the event of illness, nursing care and childbirth. If they exceed the age limit, they may be employed on a salaried basis.

Your salary is made up of a basic salary, a family allowance and, if applicable, an individually negotiated appointment bonus. In addition, there are performance bonuses in several stages and possibly (after an appointment to another university outside Lower Saxony) a retention bonus.

The basic salary for grade W2 in Lower Saxony is currently €6,914.90. The family allowance (level 1) for married persons or those living in a registered civil partnership is €165.72. The child-related family allowance (level 2) is €307.36. If there is more than one child, the family allowance increases by € 141.64 for the second child to be taken into account and by € 498.41 for the third and each additional child.
